City Planning has retained a consultant team to prepare a new Circulation Element of the Jersey City Master Plan. This effort, known as Jersey City Mobility 2050, will result in a document that describes an action-oriented plan for a citywide, multi-modal transportation network that serves today’s needs and future needs. Jersey City Mobility 2050 will include the movement of people and goods and strengthen the link between land use and transportation.

 

The plan will include the framework for the development of:

•  A pedestrian-friendly, traffic-calmed and congestion-mitigated street network 
• Frequent and reliable mass transit service between home, workplace, school, recreation and shopping 
• Efficient transport and delivery of goods to and from industrial areas and commercial establishments 
• Environmentally-sensitive transportation systems designed to reduce congestion, decrease emissions per passenger mile and encourage non-polluting modes of transportation 

It is anticipated that Jersey City Mobility 2050 will be complete by the spring of 2009.
